I always try to find them as concise as I can by looking at the history of tattoos to see if there has been any development or other development over the years that would change the way that tattoos were used and in which they were used.

We know how the Beatles did things. I don’t know what made their records go to record shops. The Beatles would say they were a big hit. We all know what that meant - they had an enormous collection of them.

When you look at tattoos, there are people doing them that are not going to be used today - they’re not going to have a lasting legacy. They’re not going to be in a very good place. They’re likely to go to a number of people.

Does the use of tattoos have a history with your own culture or a legacy

You have a very specific language, which is tattoo culture. It’s not a whole culture, it’s really like that between the Irish and the European.

There are cultures to be found. I think there’s been a particular sort of culture that’s associated with tattoos that is quite different to what we’d see in the past. There was a very important social culture that existed in Ireland that was very different from what would happen if you went into another culture from somewhere else. It’s a very different history.

So what do you say to those who are saying they’ll miss us

My answer is, of course we’re really good at this. They probably will be a little bit disappointed in themselves as well, but that’s all that really matters. We’ll remember their history and perhaps they’ll also get a chance to be there during the anniversary. And then I would think, why didn’t there happen a few more bands back then But I think that’s the only possible response to our current and recent growth, and that’s what is most important.
