FORT WORTH (CBS13) Two months after the city of Fort Worth is due to build the 1.2 billion Greenway Center on land off Interstate 5, the city is working on planning the site a separate project to improve its air quality and water quality.

The plan call for an 800,000 square feet space that would be used for clean, green, and environmentally sensitive uses such as green lighting and recycling. The area around the building known as the Greenways of the Future is now being considered for construction on the new Greenway.

According to the Fort Worth Planning Department’s website, the plan calls for the construction of the 1.2 billion greenway center on land off Interstate 5 for up to 90 sites between Fort Worth and the Hays region.

According to the project information, the Greenways of the Future would create an 18,000-square-foot green space space and be managed by local, state, federal, economic development offices through the city government. Additionally, the site would be used for clean and environmentally sensitive uses residential, commercial, industrial, and retail housing.

In a statement from the city to the Tribune, local developer Mike Kriebel said residents of this land are entitled to access and use the land in their communities in no other way.

The greenway project of the future would be an eye opener for our residents when it comes to this neighborhood. We’ll find out how well you understand our community through our beautiful views of the downtown and the Gulf Coast. We’ve had a number of projects coming along like this for many years and it makes sense for us to create what you can access and use in our community. Our greenway is our blueprint to make Fort Worth an international hotspot and showcase our great cities and make them sustainable, said Mr. Kriebel.
