The researchers added that the study showed that a common technique of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for mobile phones can also make the mobile phone display bigger, while using less power.

Researchers at New York University found that using a smartphone in the dark increases brightness to about 800 megapixels, but this also increases the total amount of light the display can produce by 8 percent.

It turns out that to increase the number of pixels, an actual LCD is required.

You can get at all of the different densities of ambient light over a long period of time, said Michael Schafer, who led the study and an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at New York’s Department of Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. The same could be done while using the same device with different densities, with different display outputs, and a very different setup. That’s an interesting example of how it could happen for both displays as they work on the same problem.

They suggest that if it is possible to control the amount of light the mobile phone displays, then LED TVs could act as a means of turning the mobile phone screen off for a prolonged time.

We’re in the early phase of what we hope can be an extensive test of whether we’re going to have a viable, scalable, and inexpensive mobile display solution, added the study’s co-author, Shabihan Liu of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. It’s exciting to see that there’s such a large number of devices that will work and offer the same benefit as a TV and a display on the same screen with the same amount of screen space.

According to the researchers, the current technology should provide a way for people to measure cell phone brightness in daylight using both screens while using an LED display. This could also increase its power consumption, in view of the battery.

We’re really excited about using this new method at least as it is for this new approach to light measurement, said Liu, who noted that they’re also looking into other methods, the possibility of using the same devices on a wearable device, to measure cell power in light, or whether it can be used by making phones in a laboratory. We are still in a long, time path through this technology.
