A few hours after receiving the first e-mail from the IRS about the IRS’s upcoming tax reform and budget resolution, Senator Ron Johnson released an e-mail to his colleagues and his staff, in which he urged them to put a pause to the tax crisis. In this e-mail, Johnson called on his staff not to allow a tax increase to escalate. He also called for the release of the IRS website, which includes the e-mail address of the IRS Commissioner, John Koskinen, as well as a list of the agency’s top officials.

Koskinen responded by stating that the tax overhaul and budget resolution could result in a significant tax increase, but that the House will not pass them in three weeks.

Koskinen, who did not respond to requests for comment, wrote that he would consider raising the 12 billion that is currently appropriated for the year from a budget that funds an additional 2 billion. He did not clarify how much additional funds will be available under the Budget Control Act.

The IRS was originally set to make its last revenue request on Wednesday, but IRS spokesman Josh Daw sent that request to the IRS on Thursday, the IRS’s scheduled release date that is expected Friday. When they did not respond by phone, the IRS began to collect the 12 billion, which would give it about 9 billion for five years.

Johnson said he plans to continue to work with the House to pass the bill by Dec. 18. House Republicans will then take it to the Senate for a vote, and would then have the opportunity to use it to pass a bill that is considered in their minority.
